Functional Family Therapy
Functional Family Therapy (FFT) is a short-term, intensive support service designed to help parents, caregivers, and their children to communicate, connect and problem-solve as a family to overcome life’s challenges as they arise.
This service is available to families experiencing challenges that might make it harder to provide a safe and stable home for children. This evidence-based program achieves long-term change for families who repeatedly experience the same challenges and feel stuck in patterns that don’t seem to shift.
We integrate family therapy sessions with case management and link families with supports at the right time.

- Coach problem solving skills to improve family’s ability to solve everyday challenges
- Improve communication between family members and extended family networks
Referrals
FFT services accept eligible referrals from the Family and Child Connect, child safety services, health services, schools, community agencies, and self-referrals from families.
This service is available to families in Cairns and Townsville.
Referrals are received through the Intensive Family Support portal. If you are a service provider interested in referring a family you can find our referral form at: https://familysupportreferral.org.au/
