Act for Kids is a workplace that offers a diversity of careers. From providing residential care for children in remote communities in the remotest parts of Far North Queensland, early intervention case management of families, providing therapy services to children who have been abused and neglected, to roles that support the wonderful work our practitioners do with kids and families.

We are a culturally safe and supportive employer who values diversity in the workplace and cultural competency in our practice.

We believe in leading through our values and are committed to making Act for Kids a great place to work.

Here is what our staff say motivates them to work for Act for Kids …

“Act for Kids is a wonderful organisation that is truly focused on great outcomes for children.  It’s not hard to be committed to that.”

“What motivates me to come to work is the unconditional support from my fellow colleagues and supervisor, I think Act for Kids in a whole promotes a great level of self-care which reflects our practice when working with our families.”

“What helps me keep me motivated is our SafeKIDS program, keeping our children close to family, culture and community. It excites me to see the smiles on the children’s faces when spending time with family out in community, whether it be out fishing or barbecuing on their homelands. It’s awesome! I love Act for Kids and what we do as a team!”

“As a therapist I love working in an integrated team, to assist children and their families with healing, growth and development. It’s great to work in an organisation that is passionate and motivated to make a difference.”

“I believe that providing children with opportunities to experience positive interactions with trusted adults can make a huge difference to their capacity to recover from trauma.”

“We actually walk and talk our values, from the top down, therefore I feel valued, appreciated and like we are all working towards a common goal.”

“I wanted to make a career change. I felt I needed to work with families and children as previous jobs restricted me to assist families on the ground level.  I saw a job going at Act for Kids and looked at the position description and applied. Since my employment with Act for Kids I have been supported with furthering my career by going onto study for a BA in Social Work.  Act for Kids have supported me in this decision and I am able to apply my studies to real life cases. Being Aboriginal I am hoping to finish my degree whilst still employed with Act for Kids and help support my Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families by working towards lowering the number of Aboriginal children being placed in out of home care. I am sure I will get there and make a difference.   I love the current work I am doing.”

“I have found Act for Kids to be one of the most supportive and friendly organisations I have ever worked for. I feel valued by the organisation, which is something I have not really felt that often before.”
