The Child Safety Commission of Inquiry’s findings present an important opportunity to rebuild Queensland’s child protection system and improve outcomes for children by prioritising their rights, voices and wellbeing, while ensuring families can access the support they need during the critical early years of a child’s life.
The state of our child protection system is best summed up by the inquiry’s report, which pointedly notes that after 27 years and four child-safety related inquiries in Queensland, ‘the child protection system continues to fail children and the community in serious respects’.
We must act now to create meaningful change for kids.
Act for Kids lauds the commission’s efforts in identifying opportunities and solutions that first and foremost, put the needs, rights and voices of children first.
We also welcome recommendations that promote evidence-based solutions, prevention of harm, early intervention and a holistic, whole of system approach.
Act for Kids is continuing to carefully consider the report and the consequences of its 52 recommendations to ensure every child in Queensland has stability, care and safety.
We welcome the opportunity to continue working with government and sector partners to ensure every child in Queensland can grow up safe, supported and thriving.
