Act for Kids has officially opened the doors to our Integrated Therapy Centre in Broadmeadows.

With thirty years’ experience delivering identical services in Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales, it was only a matter of time before Act for Kids made their way to Victoria to make a difference to the lives of the 15,488 children that were confirmed as abused or neglected in Victoria last year.

Act for Kids delivers intensive integrated therapy with a psychologist, occupational therapist and speech pathologist to children that have experienced or are at risk of child abuse and neglect.

CEO Dr Neil Carrington, said the demand for services to treat and prevent child abuse and neglect continues to increase each year.

“In 2017-2018 there were 49,315 children abused or neglected in Australia. Sadly, this number is frighteningly high. Emotional abuse was the most prevalent type confirmed in 48% of cases, followed by neglect in 24% of cases.

“We will work closely with the existing health services to ensure Victorian kids and families get the integrated support they need to overcome their experiences and challenges. Seeing them get stronger and have happier, healthier futures is our goal.”

Attending the official opening on Wednesday 24th October was the Member for Broadmeadows, MP Frank McGuire, The Honorable Dr David Hamill AM, Chair of Act for Kids Board and Cr Karen Sherry of Hume City Council.

Member for Broadmeadows, MP Frank McGuire said “Caring for our children is one of the greatest duties and responsibilities. The work done by Act for Kids will help children and families in Broadmeadows and Melbourne’s North.”
