A real life ‘Shark’ and a Walkley Award winner joined an incredible line-up of speakers to inspire a sold-out crowd for a special Act for Kids luncheon supporting children in need.
More than 250 people gathered at The Calile Hotel on June 4 for an afternoon of connection and empowerment, while raising crucial funds for children who have experienced trauma or are at-risk of harm.
The International Women’s Day event returned bigger and better after it was postponed in March due to Cyclone Alfred.
Shark Tank Australia’s Maxine Horne, Walkley Award-winning journalist Tracey Spicer AM, money expert Sarah Megginson and Group MD & CEO Asia Pacific, Auto & General, Ram Kangatharan headlined the lunch, hosted by M.C and journalist Kim Skubris.

They were joined by Act for Kids CEO Dr Katrina Lines, who described the event as an important celebration of women’s equality.
“It is our fifth year hosting the event and over the years we have been asked why we support International Women’s Day and how it links to our purpose,” Dr Lines said.
“The answer is simple. When women, mothers and girls are empowered, they have more opportunity to voice their rights and advocate for their communities, including their children and family.
“There is also strong international research showing that when we lift up women and accelerate gender equality, there is a huge benefit to the entire country including economically.”

The theme of IWD this year was #AccelerateAction for gender equality – a worldwide call to “acknowledge strategies, resources, and activity that positively impact women’s advancement, and to support and elevate their implementation.”
Guests at Wednesday’s event were treated to a two-course lunch, an exclusive preview of designer Samantha Ogilvie’s latest seasonal fashion and opportunities to win premium raffle and silent auction prizes.
Money raised from the event will help fund the Act for Kids’ Integrated Therapy Service, directly supporting children who have experienced trauma or are at-risk of harm.
