Bella witnessed parental domestic violence at a young age. She was refusing to go to school and was also experiencing anxiety and depression, sleeping difficulties, psychosomatic symptoms like headaches and stomach aches, and engaging in self-injurious behaviour like bodily cutting.
When Bella came to the Thriving Kids program at Act for Kids, our therapists provided systemic support as well as individual trauma informed treatment to Bella and her family.
Over the course of the program, Bella slowly learned to manage her anxiety and depression. She also developed a better sense of interpersonal safety and individual identity.
Now, Bella no longer resorts to cutting behaviours. She recently completed her junior high school certificate and has a happier outlook on life.
Our therapists also helped her separated parents to form a parenting relationship so they can enjoy safe and fulfilling contact with their kids. Bellas mother no longer suffers from trauma flashbacks, anxiety and depression after receiving individual trauma specific treatment.
