Retired rugby league legend, Daren Lockyer, visited Aurukun to congratulate local council staff members at a council awards ceremony, where he met with children and signed autographs at Cape York Aboriginal Australian Academy.

Darren later met with the Act for Kids safe house coordinators from our SafeKIDS Program in Aurukun. Darren was excited to visit the safe house and learn first-hand about our work helping Indigenous kids and families in the local community.

The safe house provides a safe and caring home for kids who can’t live safely at home while authorities investigate child protection concerns. It means kids can stay safely in community and maintain their connection to family, culture and country.
