Our recent tax appeal has been our most successful to date, raising over $190,000 for abused and neglected children. More than 150 children will be provided with free life-changing therapy and support for an entire year thanks to the overwhelmingly generous donations that we have received!
Act for Kids CEO Dr Neil Carrington said child abuse and neglect is one of Australia’s biggest and most misunderstood social problems.

When four-year-old Ava and three-year-old Zach came to Act for Kids, the siblings had been living in an abandoned shed with their parents who had both served time in prison for drug offences. With barely any food in the makeshift home, Ava and Zach had retreated into a world of virtual silence.
After being assessed by the Act for Kids integrated therapy team, Ava and Zach met with Amanda, one of our Speech Language Pathologists, for their therapy session.
“The trauma runs deep for these children,” Amanda said. “They had been left in a cot – day and night – and their parents, possibly due to their drug use, didn’t talk to them, hold them, play with them or show them love.”
Almost a year later, both children are making progress, but there’s a long way to go. Act for Kids’ dedicated integrated therapy team are giving the siblings the skills and support they need to overcome their trauma.
Sadly, Ava and Zach are only two of the 49,315 children confirmed as abused or neglected in one year alone. We have provided free therapeutic support for thousands of kids and families – but there are still many more who need urgent assistance right now.
