Reconciliation Action Plan Launch

On 24 March 2021, Act for Kids officially launched their Reconciliation Action Plan for 2021-2023. This was a very important date for the Act for Kids team. To view a range of other culturally important days for all Australians, please click here>>

Act for Kids’ vision for reconciliation is to reduce the disproportionate representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in the child protection system.

Act for Kids is committed to ensuring that all children have a safe and happy childhood and we know that being safe in cultures is vitally important for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young peoples.

We respect and honour the richness and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, languages, spiritual relationships, histories and achievements. We strive to strengthen our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through positive and inclusive work practices and partnerships.

Family Matters

Family MattersStrong communities. Strong culture. Stronger children – is Australia’s national campaign to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people grow up safe and cared for in family, community and culture. Family Matters aims to eliminate the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care within a generation (by 2040).

Family Matters is led by SNAICC – National Voice for our Children and a group of eminent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders from across the country. The campaign is supported by a Strategic Alliance of over 150 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous organisations.

Acknowledgement of Country and Welcome to Country

There are many ways to appropriately Acknowledge Country or Welcome to Country, so it is key to learn and understand the differences between them, and why they are important.

Incorporating Acknowledgement of Country and Welcome to Country into meetings, gatherings, and events shows respect by upholding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural protocols.

Taking the time to Acknowledge Country, or including a Welcome to Country at an event, reminds us that every day we live, work, and dream on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander lands.
