Having been with Act for Kids since 2007, Kieran started out on the frontline in Cairns and Yarrabah with what is now known as the Intensive Family Support Service.
Kieran was the recipient of the 2012 Qld Child Protection Award, Professional Non Govt for his work in establishing the safe house service in Doomadgee before going on to play a pioneering role in the development of the 2015 Qld Reconciliation Award Winning Safe House programs in the West Cape York and Gulf of Carpentaria Aboriginal communities as the SafeKIDS Director. These communities include Doomadgee, Kowanyama, Pormpuraaw, Aurukun and Napranum.
Kieran served as Act for Kids’ Regional Director for Far North Queensland for 5 years from 2013 – 2018 , during this time he led over 120 staff in varying programs including Family and Child Connect and Intensive Family Support services.
Being of Badtjala heritage and a background in Anthropology and Community Development, Kieran has a strong focus on redressing the over representation of Aboriginal children in the child protection system by integrating Child and Family services into culture and in doing so working closely with Traditional Owners and Cultural Authorities.
Kieran is a born and bred Far Northerner having lived and worked from the Torres Strait across Cape York to Doomadgee in the Gulf of Carpentaria. He has recently begun in the Brisbane based role of Director National Service Development, working with our services across the nation to see the development of more services to help more kids.
