Subway® Restaurants across regional Queensland* donated over $20,000 to Act for Kids at the ‘Sub for a Cause’ day held on 15 March. The in-store charity day saw stores donate $1 from every Sub sold to support Act for Kids’ work in preventing and treating child abuse and neglect.

Stores drummed up community support by hosting one memorable day, with staff donning their favourite superhero costumes and the SubMan mascot entertaining the kids. Despite the fun and laughter, no one lost sight of the cause with customers digging deep and dropping their spare change into collection boxes, raising an additional $5,000.

Cairns Subway franchisee, Gavin Third said it was fantastic to see so many franchisees putting their support behind the ‘Sub for a Cause’ day with many hosting additional activities for kids at their stores.

“I’ve been involved with Subway for more than 12 years so it is great to see that Subway has teamed up with a worthy charity that delivers better outcomes for Queensland’s kids and families.

“I was excited to be a part of the day with many children (and big kids), shooting hoops with the NBL Cairns Taipans players and SubMan mascot at my store in Cairns to help raise awareness,” Gavin said.

Act for Kids CEO, Dr Neil Carrington, said the support of all the Subway franchisees and the generosity of customers is what makes this day a success.

“Subway has a long history with us and we are always blown away by their commitment to raise awareness of our work in the community. Through in-store collection boxes across the state they’ve raised more than $300,000, and this regular source of funding makes it possible for us to provide long-term support.

“The donations will enable us to expand our intensive therapy and early intervention programs to thousands of children, young people and families in Queensland, so we can help them overcome their challenges so they can become stronger, safer and happier,” Dr Carrington said.
