Act for Kids CEO, Dr Neil Carrington attends St Laurence’s school assembly to thank each student for their fantastic fundraising efforts and supporting a worthwhile cause.

St Laurence’s College students aim to beat previous fundraising efforts this year as they embark on their annual college walkathon starting at 9am on Friday 9th August.

Over 1,500 students will complete a 15km walk along the Brisbane River to raise awareness for Act for Kids and other charities, with each student raising funds to partake in the walkathon.

This year’s theme for the walkathon is ‘Building Spirit – Together’ and will be demonstrated as the students walk for charity in bright yellow t-shirts.

Ellen Park, Fundraising Manager at Act for Kids said that the walkathon is a reflection of how each student can help raise local community support for a worthy cause.

“The walkathon is a great way to bring students together for a fun day of walking and fundraising. We’re really impressed by each student’s personal endeavour to raise awareness of key issues faced in society and taking the first step to serve the local community by caring for children and their families.

“We would like to say a big thank you to each student for their fundraising efforts, aiming to raise over $10,000 that translates into intensive therapy support for thousands of children and families across Queensland,” Ellen said.

Act for Kids is an Australian not-for-profit organisation providing free professional therapy and support services to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect. For over 25 years we have helped thousands of kids, young people and their families.
