Subway® Restaurants have just reached a huge milestone, raising a staggering $500,000 for charity. South East Queensland restaurants will mark the milestone by stepping up to the plate with Sub for a Cause on 2 May 2015, by raising even more funds to help Queensland charity Act for Kids conquer child abuse.

Following the success of the event held in regional Queensland earlier this year, participating Subway® Restaurants across South East Queensland* will donate $1 from every Subway Footlong® sold on 2 May to Act for Kids. The initiative will run in Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan and Gold Coast restaurants.

Act for Kids CEO, Dr Neil Carrington, said the South East Queensland Sub for a Cause day marks a significant milestone for the charity.

“We are incredibly proud of the hard work and passion shown by Subway® Restaurants. Raising $500,000 through loose change is a huge achievement and we are overwhelmed by the community support. The funds raised will enable us to continue our specialised treatment to help traumatized children in dealing with severe trauma that can have a devastating long-term impact on their emotional and social development.

“It’s really important that we continue to raise awareness of our work. We hope Sub for a Cause brings Queenslanders together in movement to prevent child abuse and raise much needed funds for areas where families receive less support services despite being just as important,” Dr Carrington said.

Lesley Dobson, Development Manager at Subway® Systems Australia, said Subway® Restaurants has supported Act for Kids for over five years now, by collecting customers’ spare change through hundreds of in-store collection boxes across Queensland.

“Thanks to our generous customers and franchisees, we’ve been able to raise thousands of dollars to help Act for Kids provide essential services to support vulnerable families during times of hardship. We are thrilled to know that we have just crossed the $500,000 mark for Act for Kids. We hope this milestone inspires actions that create better outcomes for Queensland kids.

“At Sub for a Cause on 2 May, we encourage all South East Queenslanders to head down to their local Subway® Restaurant and purchase their favourite sub in support of a cause that puts children’s interests first,” Ms Dobson said.
