Each July, National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week celebrations are held across Australia to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This year’s theme of Voice. Treaty. Truth. acknowledges that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have always wanted an enhanced role in decision-making in Australia’s democracy. Voice, Treaty and Truth were three key elements to the reforms set out in the Uluru Statement from the Heart in which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people told Australia what they want from constitutional reform.

This NAIDOC Week, Act for Kids staff went above and beyond to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Act for Kids CEO Dr Neil Carrington said Act for Kids is committed to, and proud to be, a culturally inclusive workplace.

“It’s great to see our staff coming together and participating in community events to share stories, reflect, strengthen our connections and celebrate Australia’s First Peoples.”

“We recognise the importance of reconciliation for our society and the future of our nation,” Dr Carrington said.

Some of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff members from our Act for Kids centres shared personal stories from the past, opened conversations about the Uluru Statement from the Heart and discussed how Act for Kids can continue to enrich their practices.

Check out what some of our staff got up to during NAIDOC Week 2019:
