Twin Cities Leos Club entrant Sophie Seaden took out the prize for the second highest fundraiser for the Lions Club Miss Popularity Quest, handing over a $7,250 donation to help complete the Act for Kids Child and Family Centre of Excellence in Townsville.

The Lions International Miss Popularity Quest has been a major fundraiser of the Lions family since 1989, raising approximately $2m for many worthy charities in North Queensland.

Sophie has been fundraising since June with the Twin Cities Leos Club, Northern Suburbs Lions Club, Northern Suburbs Lioness Club and Mt Stuart Lions Club. Along with the Lions members, Sophie worked tirelessly to raise funds holding various fundraisers from high teas, cheese and wine nights to barbeques and country hoedowns.

Twin Cities Leos Club Treasurer, Sophie Seaden said the whole club was really inspired to jump on board and help Act for Kids after hearing a talk from Act for Kids’ Christine O’Flynn.

“Abuse and neglect is something we never want any child to experience. Hopefully the new centre can work towards Act for Kids’ motto in preventing and treating child abuse and neglect. I feel very lucky to know that we’ll make a real difference to children’s lives and we’ve had a blast doing it,” Sophie said.

Christine O’Flynn, Regional Development Manager at Act for Kids said the donation was a timely boost for the Centre of Excellence which is expected to open in early 2014. Donations to the Centre of Excellence appeal can be made at actforkids.com.au/donate.html

The centre will be the first of its kind in the region, pushing the boundaries of sustainable design and leading future service development in child protection. For further information, visit actforkids.com.au/centre-of-excellence.html
