Without the ongoing selfless support from the community, raising funds to help our kids would be challenging but it’s the days like the 3rd of August that make it all worth it!

On a sunny Friday morning, over 150 passionate golfers came together at two separate Act for Kids golfing events in Queensland, and in one day raised almost $27,000 for children who have suffered abuse or neglect. That’s enough to provide life-changing therapy to 22 children for an entire year!

At the Lakelands Golf Course on the Gold Coast, more than 50 enthusiastic golfers attended the Jane Foundation Charity Golf Day and raised a generous $4,500 for Act for Kids!

Miranda Bain, Act for Kids Program Manager on the Gold Coast, said this amount of money is enough to provide four vulnerable children with a second chance at childhood!

“The funds so generously raise via the Jane Foundation Golf Day go directly to funding a part time Psychologist for our Gold Coast Flourish Child and Family Therapy Service who will be able to provide therapy to four kids for an entire year.

“This service provides free therapy and assessment to kids who are dealing with trauma in their lives. This trauma may be result of abuse or neglect.  Our Gold Coast Psychologist also has specialist training in supporting children who have experienced sexual abuse,” she said.

Only one hour away, at the Royal Qld Golf Club (RQGC) in Eagle Farm, members really went the extra mile, raising an incredible $22,125 for vulnerable kids at their annual Charity Golf and Bridge Day.

RQGC Ladies President and Board Member Jan Kildey said the Charity Golf and Bridge Day is a once a year opportunity for the club to give something substantial back to the community.

“We are extremely fortunate to be able to have a great time playing golf or bridge, and at the same time raising funds for a worthwhile charity,” she said.

“We chose Act for Kids this year because I was fortunate enough to have been invited to the Mercedes event at Sanctuary Cove earlier this year at which Act for Kids was involved, and I was very impressed with the aims of the charity, but even more distressed with the need for such a charity in today’s society.

As the Ladies President at RQ, I encouraged our Committee to consider choosing Act for Kids, and was very happy when they agreed,” she said.

A huge thank you to all of the golfers and to everyone who worked tirelessly to make both events possible! Days like this are vital in helping Act for Kids heal little hearts and making a huge difference to the lives of abused and neglected children.
