Star Wars fanatics took over Brisbane on Saturday 3rd June for the 501st Legion’s Redback Garrison Grand Parade and Galactic Empire Charity Ball.

The Charity Ball was the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and was an impressive night of charity auctions, meet and greets with screen accurate characters, droid races and a best dressed competition all in the name of helping abused and neglected kids.

Held at the Tattersall’s Club Brisbane, the night raised over $30,000 for charity.

Last year 45,714 children were confirmed as abused or neglected in Australia, an increase on the year before, said Rob Williamson, Executive Director of Fundraising, Marketing and Communications for Act for Kids.

“It’s a sad fact the one child every 12 minutes experiences abuse or neglect in Australia –  to such a degree that authorities step in,” said Mr Williamson.

“The money raised at events like these go a long way towards restoring little lives.”
