This month, Townsville gym Body Torque hosted a charity boxing event ‘Fight For Your Cause’ where people from all walks of life raise money for a cause close to their hearts before jumping in a boxing ring for three rounds in the name of charity!

Townsville locals, Jesse Pratt (above left) and Eddy Bojocan (above right) both put their hands up to participate in the ‘Fight For A Cause’ and chose to raise funds for Act for Kids to help children who have been abused or neglected.

Jesse Pratt, a carpenter by trade, said he was inspired by the work Act for Kids does as he, his family and close friends have been affected by abuse or neglect as children.

At the time of the fight, Jesse had raised over $6,900 which is enough to fund 115 therapy hours for children at the Act for Kids Centre of Excellence in Townsville. Eddie has raised over $1,700 which is enough to teach 34 Grade One students how to keep themselves safe.

The first time fighters said the event went great, despite Jesse dislocating a shoulder in the first round (ouch!).

Act for Kids CEO Dr Neil Carrington, says he is incredibly grateful to both fighters for their incredible fundraising efforts.

“Not only have they raised much needed funds for our kids, but they have also raised awareness of our organisation to so many people and businesses that have gotten behind them,” Dr Carrington said.
