After opening their doors at Holland Park West in August 2018, Assessment and Service Connect (ASC) are celebrating 12 months of helping to keep families in the local community together.

Assessment and Service Connect is an initiative of the Queensland Government working in partnership with Act for Kids.

Over the past year, ASC have supported over 250 families in Mt Gravatt, Cannon Hill, Inala, Forest Lake, Chermside and Fortitude Valley.

Act for Kids Executive Director of Services Dr Katrina Lines said ASC is a service initiative funded by the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women that aims to help keep families safe and together.

“ASC is a short-term support service for families involved in a Child Safety investigation and assessment process,” Dr Lines said.

“The ASC team works together with Child Safety Services and families to identify strengths and challenges, and to complete a child-centred and family focused plan, based on the family’s goals.”

“Our work has included assistance with domestic violence, which has been present in almost all referred cases, and assistance in areas such as mental health and trauma, substance misuse, housing and advocating for specific services to assist families,” she said.

Minister for Child Safety, Youth and Women Di Farmer said she is proud to support a service, which in one year has already helped hundreds of local families achieve their goals and stay together.

“Assessment and Service Connect is a fantastic support service for families in the local community and I look forward to celebrating many anniversaries to come,” she said.
