At the start of 2019, Act for Kids appointed its first Parent Ambassadors – a new category of our wonderful Ambassador network.

Our Parent Ambassadors are dynamic business and community leaders who are parents themselves – juggling work and home – readily identifying with kids experiencing a challenging childhood.

Here we introduce two of our Parent Ambassadors, Chris and Gemma Mountford.

Chris and Gemma have two young children, while maintaining demanding professional careers themselves.

Chris is Queensland Executive Director of the Property Council of Australia (PCA), as well as Queensland Advisory Board Member of the Property Industry Foundation (PIF). Through both roles, Chris has been closely involved in raising and distributing funds for organisations such as Act for Kids.

Fundraising initiatives through PCA and PIF have raised in excess of $600,000 for Act for Kids nationally. Chris says this has been a catalyst for him to better understand the amazing work Act for Kids does.

“I’ve been lucky enough to see first-hand the wonderful work that the Act for Kids therapy team does at Wooloowin. We really want to support this amazing team at Act for Kids who deliver such incredible support to kids who need it.”

While she has a background in scientific research administration and communication, Gemma is a high school science and mathematics teacher – so the development and wellbeing of children forms a big part of her everyday working life.

Introduced to Act for Kids through Chris, Gemma immediately identified with our cause. When we first approached her about a Parent Ambassador role, Gemma commented;

“As a parent and teacher, I see every day that it takes a collective effort to raise a child. An important part of that effort is to bring attention to and educate people about child safety and protection.
