Privacy Policy
ACT for Kids conforms to the National Privacy Principles when collecting, storing, using, securing and disclosing people's personal information. There are 10 National Privacy Principles which are legally binding, and each of these informs our clinical and fundraising policies.
We take reasonable steps to ensure that families, carers, staff, financial members, government bodies and non-government organisations are informed:
- that we may collect personal information from them
- of why we collect this information and how it will be used
- of whom we may pass the information on to.
The Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000 requires that all the information we obtain from individuals is:
- collected by fair and honest means (without intimidation or deception)
- stored in a safe and secure manner
- accurate and up-to-date
- able to be corrected if it is not accurate
- only used for the primary purpose for which it was collected (unless consent is provided to collect information for a secondary purpose)
- able to be accessed on request unless special exemptions apply.
We have committed to upholding the National Privacy Principles and apply them to all personal information we collect across our organisation. Click here for a full copy of our privacy policy.
Client confidentiality
Working with families who have a history of abuse or neglect means we have to be respectful and sensitive when it comes to issues of client confidentiality.
- Sensitive digital information about our clients is kept on an external server which has levels of security which rival large financial institutions.
- During orientation, our staff and volunteers are instructed about privacy guidelines.
- On their first visit, we talk to families and children about their rights and confidentiality. Parents or guardians need to give signed consent for us to share their information with anyone outside our organisation.
- Images of our clients are never used in promotional or marketing material. We sometimes use real cases to illustrate how our work benefits families, but we always ensure any information which might identify the client is removed or changed.
- We are happy to arrange for gifts or other benefits to be distributed among our client group, but our policy generally prohibits us from linking our clients directly to our supporters.
