MEDIA RELEASE: 26th February 2010.
Channel Seven in conjunction with ACT for Kids has now launched the 'Seven /ACT for Kids Appeal' to raise significant funds for the vital services provided to abused children and their families.
This new week-long appeal will be held from September 3 to 10, 2010, and will coincide with the annual activities of Child Protection Week.
Since 1988, Channel Seven and 7 News presenter Kay McGrath have been long-term supporters of ACT for Kids and its highly specialised services provided to thousands of children affected by abuse and neglect.
Kay McGrath, who is a passionate spokesperson and ambassador of ACT for Kids, said "In light of the recent tragic crimes against children, the important work of ACT for Kids is now more crucial than ever".
Child abuse is both treatable and preventable, however most kids don't receive the help and assistance they need.
Executive Chairman, Denis Loaney said, "The most successful way to address child abuse and neglect is through specialised prevention and treatment programs ideally targeted toward at-risk children and their families. Simply put, we must ACT now."
Max Walters, Managing Director of Channel Seven Brisbane said, "In a world of conflict and difference, it seems to me that love for our children is the one and only thing that everyone agrees on. It is for this reason that Seven is very proud to be a long term supporter of ACT for Kids. We understand how important the work is and we're looking forward to playing a role in supporting ACT's endeavours for many years to come."
The rate of abuse to children has more than doubled over the past 10 years. The Channel Seven / ACT for Kids Appeal will raise both awareness and funds to treat and prevent child abuse.
