The countdown is on for our adventurous trekkers taking on the eight day Trek for Kids challenge in New Zealand. With just 100 days until they set off and a goal of raising $89,000, the team have been busy with fundraising activities and training for the rigorous track ahead!

Auto & General trekkers Rebecca Brownlie, William Harrison and Ryan Bartlem are hoping to raise $12,000 between them with all proceeds going towards the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect in Australia.

“We have lots of exciting events coming up including a Cocktails and Canapes night on the 27th of August, sausage sizzles, bake sales and of course, an Auto and General favourite – Superhero Day, to be held during Child Protection Week,” Rebecca said.

“We’ve also had some amazing prizes donated to us which we’ll be raffling off, as well as a fun day in New Farm Park where we are putting on a BBQ, selling cupcakes and playing games.”

Our mother and daughter trekkers, Loretta and Isabel have also been busy training for the event by competing in marathons and putting together a Photography Exhibition & Auction, Pics4Kids!

A familiar face, Loretta (pictured right) completed the Larapinta Trek for Kids in 2014 and needed no convincing to sign up for a second time. Loretta

“I loved the Larapinta experience and have hiked many of the NZ trails previously so it was a no brainer. Great trails and great company make for an ever memorable experience,” Loretta says.

Loretta has no concerns that her 12 year old daughter Isabel might have trouble keeping up with the team. “I have a sneaking suspicion that Isabel will be our pace-setter in NZ, going slow is not her style!” Loretta said.

Our trekkers will soon be coming together for a training session at Brisbane’s Mt Coot-tha and will be put through their paces using Nordic Poles in preparation for the challenge. Visit our Trek for Kids website for more updates on our Trekkers and to read our blog.
